Mike Simpson
Mike Simpson has an Economics degree and for over 20 years has worked for the YMCA. He has managed services for young people with drug and alcohol problems, homeless young people and pupils at risk of exclusion from school. Mike has also built a partnership with the YMCA in Bethlehem in the occupied Palestinian territories that is helping to improve cross-cultural and inter-religious understanding. Social justice and the needs of young people are high on his agenda.
Mike has served as a Primary and a Secondary School Governor, Chairman of many bodies including his local Children and Young People's Partnership and as a Director of a Charitable Housing Trust. Although married in 1985 he has spent much of his life bringing up his twin children as a single parent.
Before becoming a single parent in the mid 1990's, Mike was a Berkshire District and County Councillor and in 1992 he stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate in North West Hampshire against the sitting Tory MP Sir David Mitchell, polling 16,462 votes, a result unsurpassed since.

Chris was born in Guildford in 1944, educated at Farnham Grammar School and is married with one son. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and moved to Godalming in 1967. Elected to Godalming Town Council in 1990, Waverley Borough Council in 1995 and Surrey County Council in 2001. Member of the Surrey Police Authority. Mayor of Godalming for 1996/97, Deputy Mayor of Waverley for 1998/99. Chairman of the Godalming Initiative since its formation in 1996 and was heavily involved in the successful Pedestrian Priority scheme for Godalming High Street. Interested in the problems of "small business" and "youth" in Waverley. Main hobby is Classic Car rallies and shows, raising funds for charity whenever possible.

Jenny's father was in the RAF, so she travelled all round the world when she was a child Sri Lanka, Egypt and Cyprus; Portsmouth, Yorkshire, London & Edinburgh.
She studied at Southampton University and gained a degree in Mathematics and married shortly after leaving university. She divorced 2 years ago, and has a son who is working in the IT business.
Jenny now lives with her new partner in Farncombe. She moved to Godalming in 2004.
Her first proper job was teaching; she taught age 11-18 year olds at a comprehensive school in Harlow. After a year she changed career into Information Technology, and went to work for British Airways, followed by Rank Xerox, and then with ExxonMobil as an IT project manager.
She took early retirement from ExxonMobil and is presently studying Social Science with the Open University, helping maintain Chantries Wood, and developing her artistic abilities and learning how to be town councillor!

Michael has worked and lived in Godalming for the last 35 years, running his own business. He is married with two daughters and three grandchildren.
His hobbies are swimming and running, which he does each week. He also swims each year to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. He has run in 10-kilometre runs and plays golf when he can find the time.

John Blowers
John has been a Godalming Town Councillor since 1999; and a Borough Councillor from 2003 to 2007. He is a Part-Time GP at St Nicholas Surgery, Guildford and a Medical Member of Appeals Tribunal. John was educated at Caius College, Cambridge and St Thomas' Hospital, London. He was a full time principal in General Practice at The Square Medical Practice in Godalming, Surrey from 1972 until April 2005. He is deeply committed to, and involved in local community issues, as well as maintaining the highest standards of health care provision. He feels strongly that there is an inequality of provision of services in Godalming and continues to campaign for a Local Care Centre with 'walk in' provision, as well as a new Leisure Centre for Godalming.He was founder Chairman of the Milford and Villages Day Centre from 1985 until its completion in 1997. He has been involved in the campaign to retain Milford Hospital as a specialist rehabilitation Hospital for those with substantial elderly healthcare needs. He strongly supports the work of the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford's local hospital, and has raised over £45,000 for the Children's and Cancer (oncology) Departments, by general fundraising and trekking in the Himalayas and Africa. He attends Millmead Baptist Church, Guildford and his hobbies are "the family", sport, mountain walking, travel, photography, gardening, music, art and open sports cars.

Gillian has lived in Castle Street, Farnham since 1985. Educated at St Catherine's School, Bramley and Durham University she spent a successful career as a civil servant with the Ministry of Defence leaving in 2003. Elected to Waverley in May 2003 and was Leader of Waverley Borough Council from 2005-07. Gillian's work as Waverley's representative on the South East England Regional Assembly succeeded in removing Farnham from the South East Plan's growth area of the Western Corridor/Blackwater Valley. She has a special interest in Farnham's conservation area contained within Castle ward.

Patrick is one of the few young people that are Godalming born and bred; having attended Godalming schools and Guildford Grammar he decided to start his own business in Godalming after he graduated. In 1995 Patrick was awarded Surrey Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the year for new business and has since gone on to mentor new start-up businesses at the Old Fire Station in Queen Street. He continues to live and work in the heart of Godalming. He was a Waverley Councillor for 4 years.

Mary Hunt
Mary served as a Borough Councillor for the Farnham ward of Hale and Heath End for 16 years. A former pupil of Farnham Girls Grammar School and Honours Graduate of The Open University, BA (Hons.) In her varied working life Mary has worked at the Foreign Exchange of Lloyds Bank in London and in the Office of the President of The World Bank in Washington DC. She has also worked as a Systems Engineer and Ergonomics Consultant and as a Personnel Manager with a leading publishing company. Her interests include planning and preserving Farnham's characteristic Georgian architecture, recycling and protection of the environment and rural landscape. She is a long-standing member of the CPRE. In any spare time she enjoys gardening.

Sylvia has been a Farnham resident for 28 years. Obtained a degree in economics and statistics at University of York. Married with two sons and a daughter. Particular interest in the performing arts and helps with music provision at a local school. Sylvia plays the piano for church services in Farnham. She has been an LEA school governor at the Pilgrims' Way School for 9 years. She keenly supports the improvement of leisure facilities in Waverley. Before retiring from government service, Sylvia had worked as a statistician in several departments over a period of 30 years both in the UK and internationally.

Jacquie Keen MBE
Jacquie has lived in Haslemere all her life and has served on the Town Council for the last 19 years, and Waverley for four years. She has many local interests but feels very strongly about youth issues and the lack of facilities across the borough for young people. She is the chairman of the Haslemere Police and Community Partnership and also the crime prevention panel and feels the prevention of crime and educating public awareness is vitally important to the well being of all residents of the community and will continue to work with all partners to achieve these aims.

Anne has lived in Farnham for over 30 years. A former teacher, she is a volunteer at the local Oxfam shop and was a leader in establishing the successful Winterwatch homelessness project for which she was awarded the MBE in 2004. She is a trustee of First Base for the Homeless. A former beekeeper, she has a longstanding interest in local wildlife and records data on garden birds for the British Trust for Ornithology. She is a member of the Surrey Wildlife Trust and the Surrey Bird Club. Married to Chris, she has four grown up children, six lively grandchildren and three energetic dogs!

Ken Reed
Ken lives in Cranleigh with his wife Ruth, and took early retirement from his job as a director of an international technology company in 2002. With his 3 children now young adults, Ken wishes to become more involved in, and give something back to, the local community.
A keen sportsman who represented Gloucestershire in his youth, he particularly wants to see better local recreational facilities. He has already set up and run a church Youth Club, was a member of the Round Table, delivered 'Meals on Wheels' and has taken part in many fundraising events for local and national charities.
After gaining a degree in engineering, Ken chose a career in the aerospace and electronics industries before moving into information technology. His hobbies and interests include walking, cycling, gardening, golf, DIY and digital photography.

John has been a police officer for the past 30 years, retiring in October 2002. Most of this time was spent in the Waverley area, and he lived in Witley. John has since moved to Haslemere and represents the Shottermill Ward. He is Chairman of Witley Parish Council and a Patients Participation Group. John's main hobbies are walking, photography and gardening. Having retired, he is now employed by Surrey Police as the Crime Reduction Adviser for the Waverley area.

Deputy Group Leader since 2005. A Borough Councillor since 1990. She is currently an Executive member, with responsibility for Towns and Parishes, the Local Economy and more recently Health. Celia is a Design and a Heritage Champion, and a Surrey Districts representative to the Surrey Historic Buildings Trust (previously she represented the Surrey Districts on the South-East Regional Planning Body. As Chairman of Planning in 1996, she took a delegation to meet the (then) Minister for Roads to persuade him of the need for a tunnel as the solution to the A3 problem at Hindhead. Celia was a member of Cranleigh Parish Council 1983-1999 and was Chairman in 1995-1997. Interests include roads and road safety, the environment and Health (a founder member of Cranleigh HealthWatch).Personal background: BA Hons degree (Open University).
